Details

Fat grafting, or liposculpture, is a surgical procedure where fat is taken from one area of your body and reinjected to restore volume loss in areas of your face. Facial fat transfer is a permanent solution that is helpful in reducing the appearance of laugh lines and adding fullness to sunken cheeks, hollow temples and thin lips. While non-surgical techniques, such as dermal fillers Juvederm and Restylane, will help correct volume loss, these products are not permanent and are often performed every 6-12 months.

We believe in tailoring each surgery to the needs of the patient, and never want you to have more surgery than is necessary for the most natural-looking results.

Procedure

During the fat grafting procedure, fat is harvested from a donor area on your body using gentle liposuction. Many patients choose to have fat removed from their midsection or thighs. Once the fat is harvested, it is purified through a centrifuge. From there, the purified fat is transferred into a syringe, and injected into the areas of your face where you desire more fullness and volume. The procedure is performed in a private operating suite or an outpatient surgery center. The entire procedure takes approximately 1-2 hours to complete.

Recovery

Following your facial fat grafting treatment, you may experience mild swelling, bruising and tenderness in your harvest and injection sites. This is normal and side effects typically resolve on their own within a week. Light activity may be performed on the day following treatment with strenuous activity resumed in 2 weeks. You can return to work within 1-2 weeks. While you will see limited results immediately following surgery, the final results will gradually emerge during the next several weeks after the swelling subsides. Results from fat grafting have the potential to last up to 10 years, however, we recommend maintenance treatments whenever you see signs of aging start to reappear.
